This project involved the complete renovation of the existing “J.H. Wright’s Big Daylight Store” constructed in 1901 as a general merchandise store in historic downtown Mansfield. The building is distinguished by its pressed metal front facade with stacked bands of stone, floral frieze and garland cornice. The building remodeling and renovation brought back the original materials and look that had been lost in the late 60’s with the “urban renewal” movement. The original facade had been covered with plastic siding and over the years, many tenants had covered the original press tin ceilings, filled in the large interior ceiling skylight and covered the brick/plaster walls with paint. The Chamber renovation rediscovered all these original features and brought them back for everyone to see. The Chamber now boasts of having its “big daylight” back with the building’s glass storefront in place. Now, the central skylight is the focal point in the main conference room and the entire facility is once again open for employees and visitors to enjoy.

Renovation completion: 2006
